Project 6: Website Redesign and Responsive Web Design, Finals.
Redesign of the email newsletter, using the global redesign seen on the website.
Project 6: Website Redesign and Responsive Web Design, Finals.
For the redesign of the website Foul Play Books, another constraint was to make the design work on several systems, and mock-ups had to be created to showcase it. The Home/Events page is thus shown on a laptop, a tablet and an Iphone, to show how the design react to the different sizes. The Contact page is shown on a laptop and an Iphone. The About Us and Cat page are both shown on a tablet.

One of the constraint of the project is to use one Google Web Fonts. I choose to use the font Francois One— one, because it’s the font I used in the logo, and I didn’t want to use more than three fonts in the whole design, and two, because I didn’t want to use the usual serif vs. sans-serif. The other font used in the design is Helvetica Neue (in part for ease of reading and compatibility with the systems the website will be viewed from), and Francois One brings a different approach than it to the sans-serif.

Those images are the wireframes for all four pages, and for all three types of technology the website will be seen on: smartphone, ipad, and finally laptop/computer. The design reorganizes itself as the screen size shrink or expand.

What I was interested in those designs is how they remain the same even at sizes made for smartphones and tablets, with trimmed down content.
The secret seems to be creating and using a simple, elegant grid with few embellishments and/or design elements. Simpler seems better.

Project 6: Website Redesign and Responsive Web Design
The website this project is based on is Foul Play Books. Unlike for project 5, there is no need for a sitemap here, as the organization is good.
The goal is to redesign this website for an easier navigation, and for it to be usable on smartphones and tablets using Responsive Web Design.
Project 5: Coding a “Business Card” website.
Here’s the end result of the coding. That was fun, and presented some challenges I was not expecting (like centering the container in the page, which is apparently not usual?), other than the challenge of coding seriously for the first time.
Live version of the page is here.
